3-2-1: On Providing Value To Others, Purity Spiraling, & Why You Like Being A Slave
Wisdom Wednesday #7
Hey fam,
It's time for your weekly dose of wisdom (with 4 minutes left to spare before it's Thinky Thursday)!
Here's 3 Idea-bites from me, 2 quotes from others, and 1 big-idea to think about this week.
3 Idea-bites From Me:
You cannot help others with your weaknesses. Stop thinking about what would be most valuable to other people. Start thinking about what you do best that would be valuable to other people. The former leads to wasting all your energy doing stuff you aren't good at, thus not helping anyone. Lose lose. The latter leads to becoming indispensable in a niche area that you get energy from doing. Win win.
Your morals should set your goals, your goals should set your actions. If your morals set your actions — "Do X or you are bad" — you waste massive energy nitpicking every single decision and action. This leads to stagnation, procrastination, and depression. If your morals set yourgoals, and yourgoals set your actions — "Doing X gets Y. Not doing X gets Z. Is doing X worth it to get Y over Z?" — you don't sweat the small stuff and thus can build far more momentum, netting massive improvements to your and other's lives.
When starting something new: prioritize what motivates you to act over what gets you results. The "perfect strategy all the guru's suggest" is useless if it results in stress, frustration, and procrastination. Even the awesome strategy in your head you know will get you the result you want is useless if its too far out of your current comfort zone to actually act on. Focus on associating positive feelings and consistency with the topic, and only once it's a habit you likedoing should you modify it to be oriented toward results.
2 Quotes From Others:
"Before defending yourself from a criticism, ask 'does this person know me well enough to make this criticism?'. If the answer is no, then you can politely tell them to fuck off."
— Gary Vaynerchuck
"Most people wont do the work so we have to do it for them: by fixing ourselves."
— Chiara Mazzucco
